Lately this week, I've been waking up later than usual. For example, on Tuesday, I was supposed to be at work at 8:30, I didn't wake up until 9:15. I wasn't as worried as I should have been though, I'm not sure why. And then there's today, Friday. These are the days I go to my internship and because of that, I get up around 7:15 to go catch my bus which comes around 8:15.
Now as I'm waking up from my night slumber, I check my phone as I usually do and to my amazement, its 8:05! Of course I shoot out of bed like I'm Flash and quickly bust out some moves I never thought I had as I put on my clothes, wake up my roomate Shinelle and run out the door towards my bus stop all within 5 minutes ( it was literally 5 minutes). Now the cherry on top of my morning...the clouds above me don't seem too kind to a poor young college senior as it begins to sprinkle.
So what do I do yoylu may ask as I am seen standing at the bus stop with my scarf over my head to shield me from the drops? Call up a friend of course. Here is how our conversation went.
"Danny, are you awake?" Me.
"Yes, what's up?"
'Can you bring me an umbrella, I forgot one because I was running late and its sprinkling" me.
"Uh..." As he pauses for a long time.
He tries to explana that it's not supposed to rain today. And of course I say "it's sprinkling right now"
Soon after he says ok and about a minute and a half passes when I get a phone call from him.
"I'm outside, is the bus far away?"
"No, but it should be coming soon" I then look up the street and yes, the bus was coming.
"Ok, the bus is coming now and will be here in the next 30 seconds" Me.
"Shit! Ok, I'm running now Flora, I can't believe I'm running right now."
I am standing at the corner of the street watching two different scenes; one of the bus inching closer to me and to my left, my friend Danny carrying a blue umbrella in his hand running like his life depended on it towards me. The bus reaches me first but Danny is nearing me and reaches out his right hand with he umbrella as if we are part of a race and it is my turn to carry the stick. I stretch out my hand and grab it. I quickly thank him and get on the bus.
I could tell this little scene brought a smile to the other people waiting for the bus with me and those on the bus.
But I now have an umbrella and this shoes you how important friends are to have. I am very grateful to have such amazing friends. Just the other week, I forgot my water bottle at the sane bus stop and my friend Michael went to grab it for me! My friends are amazing. Period.
