SUMMER has begun

I just came back to the good ol' US of A from a semester of being abroad in Denmark and I am ready to start doing things. What kind of things you may ask?

First off, I got my hair done. I got my hair braided by a wonderful lady name Jane Jacobi, follow her on Twitter @JaneJacobi1. The braids I got are called Kinky Twists which means the braider just twists your hair with the synthetic hair that you bought. The ends are then curled by either tying braids together and putting the ends in hot water...I understand it sounds funny but it works. Getting my hair done took about 5-6 hours total but it was worth the butt pain.
Mom also got her hair done.

I decided to braid my hair because I'd always wanted to do it and   I figured now was the time. I was also getting tired of my own hair because it was too curly, too frizzy and too nappy. It was just a mess to deal with. With my new braids, I can just get up and go and they will still look good :-). The only downside to braids is that they can be heavy on your head and they tend to last 4-5 weeks.

Second I met someone new. The person I met is Ethan. He is one of my friends cousins. He is 22 years old and lives in Arizona. I met him while my friends and I were at a concert watching Black Carl, a local band from Arizona. Ethan is a sweetheart, very articulate, likes poetry, music and is a tad bit shy. Wow, I feel like I'm setting him up for a date. Sorry. Anyways, Ethan asked me to go to a concert with him yesterday and I said yes. We went to the Crescent Ballroom which is a place I have never been able to get into because I wasn't 21 but that's all in the past now and I must say, it's probably one of the best venues in Phoenix.

When I got there, Ethan had already bought my ticket for me..see what I mean, sweetheart. The first band that played was the Fictionist. The lead guitarist was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! He was shredding and killing it! Both Ethan and I decided that we would be as good as him one day. The band played one song called "Great Escape" which is one to hear. As the song comes to a close, the band begins to play louder and louder and the lead singer is doing his thing singing "MY GREAT ESCAPE" and as the sound is encompassing your body he sings one final "MY GREAT" and at this point, the drums, guitar, bass, and keyboard are at their breaking point then. silence. It was something to experience. I liked this band so much that I bought 2 of their CD's that I'm currently listening to as I write this.

Next up was a band named Night Birds. They were a cross between country, folk, alternative and pop. The lead singer had a nice booming voice that matched the rhythm of the songs. Ethan and I were once again impressed with the talent and went to get their CD but they didn't have any. I spoke to the bassist of the band and he told me that this was their 5th show and that hopefully by the end of summer, they would have a CD.

The last band that performed was Technicolor. They sounded like the band Phoenix. They were ok. Not my favorite of the night and the volume of the speakers were on "bleeding ears". My right ear is shot and I hope it will go back to it's previous state of working.

The concert was a ton of fun and I'm glad I could go with a new friend. I will be meeting my friend Joanna for an early dinner today at the Biltmore. I'm excited! :)
